National Good Samaritan Day

March 11, 2021

On the 13th of March, we will get to celebrate National Good Samaritan Day. The Good Samaritan story taught us to show kindness and compassion to others, whether they are friends, colleagues, or complete strangers.
We often see stories about how people have helped strangers in need. It could take the form of volunteering at a hospital or smiling at a passerby. The gesture itself isn’t as important as the attitude of giving.
In our modern world, what would a Good Samaritan look like to you? Here are a few ideas of how you can observe this National Good Samaritan Day in your workplace or outside.

Hold A Blood Drive At Work

This selfless gesture could literally be a lifesaver. You could organize your local blood bank to visit your premises one day during the week to collect blood from your employees. By doing this, you could support many strangers that urgently need blood due to emergencies.

Give Positive Feedback To A Co-worker

Think about the people that you work with daily. What do you like about them, and what do they do well? When you have thought about that, send them an email giving them positive feedback or a compliment. If you want to take this a step further — deliver a hand-written note.
Not sure exactly what to say? No worries, we have you covered. View this list of appreciation words and sayings for employees.

Show Gratitude

Saying thank you can really make someone’s day. During the day, say thank you to one of your co-workers who has supported you or who makes your life easier by doing their job. Take the time to say thank you and why you are thankful for them. This simple gesture will bring a big smile to their face and spread good energy around the office.
When you are outside of work, you could show gratitude to someone who makes your life easier, such as a cashier, cleaner, or shop assistant. Take the time to look them in the eyes and say a heartfelt thank you.

Putting Someone Elses Needs Before Your Own

Maybe you have a colleague or friend that is going through a rough time at the moment. You could take them out for a coffee or buy them a treat that will brighten up their day. If you are currently working remotely, you could take the time to give them a call, send them a supportive note, or arrange a fun activity you can both do online.

Volunteer Your Time

One of the easiest ways that you can support other people is by volunteering your time. This could be to a local charity or food bank. Just a few hours a day or week could make a massive difference to the quality of other people’s lives.
These are just a few ideas, but any gesture of kindness – big or small – is likely to make someone’s day.
